I have been looking more and more into setting up a Patreon account for my Steampunk/Victorian Fantasy series The Diaries of James Purcell.
When I think of rewards levels I feel confused. I have settled on one of two reward levels based on a monthly donation system, but now need you thoughts.
£3.00 pcm – Name listed in both digital and print as a Patron as well as access to the Patreon blog and Members area of the new site (when I get the UI sorted out)
£5.00 pcm – The above +free digital copy when available.
£10.00 pcm – The above+ free paper copy.
£15.00 pcm – All of the others except that the paperback will be signed and come with a special free gift.
Originally I was going to lower the levels but as with all things, the parts for the free gift are not available anymore and have to pick more expensive versions.
So having never done this before, what do you say?
Please drop me a message and let me know what your view is?
The only time I will not allowed a message is if it’s trolling or spam so please feel free to have your say.
The time has come for me to work on the web site for my books, but I have hit one massive road block.
When I started learning html and css I only had one screen size to worry about and that was a pc/laptop screen. Now I have to make things work for pc/laptops, tablets and mobile phones, but not only that I have to also make them work in both portrait and landscape mode…
I have put up my (Alpha test version) here, but it is for the iPad and I now have to redesign several elements to work on phones (its a bit lagging on the iPhone 5s)
The version above is for the pc version and sort of works, but only for pc/laptops.
Once I have the css working for the 3 versions, I then have to compile the css into one reactive fluid template.
Book #02 in the hands of the first Beta reader and work has started on the next 2.
I am a bit nervous as my beta reader has already picked up on a chapter that I had removed as I didn’t feel it fitted and commented that it should be returned and I fear what else she mind find.
I have also started work on the rewrite of book #03 and Dragon World: Exiles is now up to 14K on its rewrite. I have an idea how I am expanding this version from its short story, but at the moment I need to do some planning on how some of the background characters fit.
I have also made some progress on my Treatise on the Evolution and Existence of Dragons but that keeps grinding to a halt due to artwork.
I am tired and in need or rest and not work, maybe I should go in a joyride in the Æther Shadow and let it just fly where the wind takes it.
This happened to an author of my acquaintance. She got an email from a “fan” and the gist of it was this:
Dear Ms. Author.
I really like your books. I think they are well-written and I enjoyed reading them. (So far, so good, right? Hang on.) However, I have returned them all because you priced them at $0.99 to $2.99, and that is too much to pay for them. I can’t afford to pay that much for a book, even though I liked it. In the future, can you make sure you make all your books free so I don’t have to return them?
And, when the author in question blocked this “fan” (and it seems, reported her as an abuser of the return system on ebooks), she sent another email chastising the author for blocking her and forcing her to open a second account (presumably to harass the…
