What does a key ring, a piggy bank, Victorian Handcuffs, and a bottle of beer have in common?

This post is separated into two parts. In Part one I show how they are all connected, and in part two, I will extend the connections. This post came about after an offhanded comment in work about not being able to teach pork.

Part One

The Keyring.

The keyring is decorated with the crest of the Purcell family. The surname Purcell came from a common occupational name for a swineherd. The surname Purcell is derived from the Norman-French word Porcel, which in turn comes from the Latin word Porcus, which means pig(1) or piglet. The four boars on the crest are ancient pigs(2).

The Piggy Bank

Piggy banks get their name from the fact that they were made to look like pigs(3).

The Victorian Handcuffs

The Handcuffs are mostly used by police. The police were created in the 19th century by Sir Robert Peel(4). It is believed that Sir Robert Peel was believed to have been the originator of the Tamworth Pig after importing an ‘Irish Grazer’ into his estate at Drayton Manor. (5). It is believed that because of this connection, the police gained the nicknames of “Peelers” and “Pigs” (6).

The Bottle of Beer

One of the first police officers was sack in his first day for being drunk on the job after turning up for work with a tankard of beer (7). If you are guessing, no, I haven’t started on the Beer yet!

Part Two

Let’s have some fun now.

In part one I continued to mention pigs so, keeping to that theme I will go off on a tangent.

Two most valuable foodstuffs derived from pigs are Pork chops and Bacon.

Bacon is also the surname of actor Kevin Bacon (yay, fifty shades of Kevin Bacon reference!) One of the film franchises he was most known for is Tremors. Tremors had a new film comes out this year and Kevin will be reprising his roll in a new Tremors TV series’s.

It has been way, to long.

So I’m back to editing and writing my books after such a long break and have discovered quite a few errors with Æther Shadow. I’m currently getting it re-edited and formatted and will hopefully get the new version out in both paperback and ebook formats for Halloween. (deadline is actually September for a special preview up in Scotland)

Dragon world exiles has finished its 3rd edit and on its forth rewrite.

Sirens of Albion: Shelly Lee is frozen,
Kitsune, the last of the first trilogy is also frozen until I finish Exiles and Æther Shadow as Shelly Lee and Kitsune are interconnected.

I think that’s it for the moment as I have work to do on my other project; the Dragon Rehoming Centre.

Terra Draconus (The Dragon World)

I have been less than productive of late and just haven’t felt like working on any of my books. I am trying to finish off Exiles as that is the first of the phase #0 books, but I am just getting nowhere. In a fit of boredom I have been trying out some 3D Art and the following images are just my playing around.

The manuscript that inspired these images is far from complete and I was hoping to have finished it by now, however, depression is a nasty condition and I just constantly feel down about my lack of artistic ability to get things from brain to paper.

I have a few days leave and hope it will help me out.

I also have a meeting with another Writer soon called Liz Hill and am looking forward to that. For the next few days I will be down in Windsor (UK) so keep a look out for a bloke with a black hoody with a large white skull on the back and the slogan “Deploy, Dominate, Disappear.”

That is all for now.

See you in port soon my fellow Rouges and Airship Captains.

Amazon publishing bug!

aswtf

Yes I have been struck by the invisible publishing bug.

What is this bug?

The bug is where the KDP preview is different to the look inside display. Above is the start of my latest ebook as shown by Amazon “Look inside”. This is disappointing because at not point is the text in my book shown as red!

I currently use Scriviner as my formatter and compiler and in that the text is black on white. If i compile and view using kindle installed on my computer again the text is black on white. If I upload to kdp and use the online viewer, the text is black on white and the download preview is the same aswell.

This is upsetting and explains a few things. I have had to export to html and found a few more bugs in the generated html source. Looks like I will have to hack through that file if I can find the time around NaNoWriMo.
