Book 1.0 Æther Shadow rev 7

I have just finished the seventh revision of book 1 Æther Shadow and bar the spelling and grammar check and edit this revision will be sent out to the reviewers and bug checks.

So glad that it’s nearly finished as in all honesty, I’m sick of the site of it.
Not because its bad its because I hate to read the same book twice.

I’m eager to move on to the next book, but at this stage there is two that are demanding to be written at the same time.

Long road to the Paperback.

First ten hard copys of my book.

First ten hard copies of my book.

It has been a long road of nearly three years from when I started writing to seeing my first book in print filled with pain anger and stress and helps from lots of friends and readers.

I started making my notes o pocket note books based on a random idea that popped into my head. Once the first draft was scribbled, I moved to copying it into the pc. The default program on OSX is pages however, at the time, pages was buggy and broken. The only reason I kept going was because it worked on both the ipad and the macbookpro.

However once I had the first draft written up and submitted to test readers I discovered a problem,

“What happen before this?” they asked.

“I had a rough idea but it was basically just “fluff” or background notes along with a short story. I sat down read through everything a thought the originally story may be interesting so a spoke to the test readers, pitched an idea and they loved it.
Out came pages and the first draft was finished and spread out. All feedback was positive so on it went to editing and then formatting and this was where the first snag was hit. As I mentioned earlier, pages was broken at this time and the outputted formats were all faulty, I had at this time just finished NaNoWriMo and had purchased a copy of Scrivnr on discount. I imported it into and tried again (the result in on Amazon) how ever that still has faults. I have made a third version using html which has an active table of contents or ncx. but hasn’t been uploaded due to editing problems with the second half of the story.

I took the completed manuscript which contained only the core first story, edited that again and turned it into the manuscript for the first book. After a few issues with book formatting and graphics formatting (a bug still not solved) The finial paperback was produced and published through Amazons Createspace publishing house.

I’m still not happy with the output from there, but will wait until the next one is finished and try another house that offers the smaller “pocket book” size that I really wanted.

What you see in the first photo is the first ten books that will be signed and sent off to the first lucky ten people as thank you’s.

So after all this work how do I feel?
To say I have a smile on my face is an understatement. I left school with less then Stella grades and didn’t think I would do anything in life. I now have both a E and Tree book publish and have people who have read and enjoyed it (and are asking for the next). I apologies to all that it missed its deadline, but its on its way (when I stop procrastinating) once I finish the fifth rewrite.

Until next time,
See you in port next time Airship Captains.

Warwolf Part 8 – Warwolf

Now we step forward a few years.

Warwolf

“Übergabe” the Hun soldier shouted at me an instant before I ripped open his chest with a massive fur covered claw. I was surrounded by dead Hun soldiers, each one the victim of this wild beast. I turned away from the carnage and made it two steps before I was overcome with tiredness and collapsed into the mud and blood above the English Army trench

I was woken by soldiers shouting “The war is over”

“What happened, did we win?” I asked looking down at my green blood stained uniform.

“The War wolves came and slaughtered every last Hun Soldier.

Warwolf Part 7 – Ravages

For the moment this is the last of the “Before” chapters before we jump forward.

Ravages

The warm copper smell cut through my senses and I felt Hungry. All this time I had fought off the hunger believe it to be part of my old life, but now it stored inside me and I wanted more. My tail swished back and forth as I looked along the trenches, there were the Hun lines and I now stalked them eager for the kill. A Hun appeared from a doorway and I pulled back my lips drooling. I could smell his blood and it stirred more inside me. The soldier wasn’t aware of me even when I killed it.

Warwolf Part 6 – Disipline

Discipline

“Take the command and lead the next charge.”
“No Sir!”
“This isn’t a request!”
“I still refuse.”
“Your a good man and you fellow soldiers look to you for support!”
“I’m not leading anyone anymore!”
“I don’t care what you past history is, you will take over the company and lead the charge over the line.”
“I will not charge into death and not lead anyone to death!”
“You have done before!”
“We were protecting our livelihood.” I growled.
“And your not this time?”
“This isn’y my war, I have already lost my life for this godforsaken country, no more!”

Warwolf Part 5 – Charge

Charge

Soldiers lined the trenches, rifle in hand, each one giving prayers to the chosen gods or goddesses. I looked up to the mud that lined the top edge and watched as the sun began to rise. Somewhere a faint whistle sound was heard before the signal was repeated down the line. Everyone stood up and gripped their rifles, my commander gripping his pistol tightly. “I wish you were the one leading the charge Mr. Purcell.”
“Why is that?”
“Because I know that everything you led has never been defeated.”
“There was one charge that failed!”
“You had no choice then!”

Warwolf Part 4 – One Month

One Month

“There is truth in the old saying that only the good die young!” a soldier said as he dropped down next to me.
“I know the truth in that,” I said trying to avoid eye contact.
The soldier lit a cigarette and offered it to me and I refused it with a shake of my head, missing my long hair. “Do you mind if I ask how old you are?”
I turned to face him and with a sigh I answered, “Over 60.”
“You are over 60 and still fighting!”
“I tried to avoid fighting.”
“Once a fighter?”
“Press ganged!”

Warwolf Part 3 – Trench Ghost

Trench Ghost

For more then a month I have watch the young soldier walk up and down the trenches carrying his lantern. Never once did I assume there was anything unusual about a soldier walking around. This night the sun had faded early and I laid there against the trench wall, Enfield rifle in hand looking out over the nomans land that separated us from the Huns. I spotted a flair flying above the field and nearly missed the scream of a shell falling from the sky. The shell exploded near me, the blast of air nocking me unconscious. When I woke up the next day I asked the Commanding officer what happened to the young soldier with the lantern. He asked me to describe the young soldier, but when I finished he stiffened.
That young soldier was killed at the beginning of the war!” He stated before dismissing me.
I walked back to my station in the trench and dropped back into my usual place. How could he be dead when I have seen him since I arrived.
“You know why!” my companion said as he sat down beside me, ” Ghost like us walk the battle field never finding peace.”
