Onwards to Part two.

I am nearly finished with part 1 and the second draft of part two is nearly complete but I hate it.
It has flow but not a defining beginning, middle and end.
I’m getting board of this part and want to go on to the next which has action and a story to it.
I need a break from this.

Swains leaps.

Finding a carriage driver who would bring me out here on a Sunday morning had proved a bit of a trial, but I was here now leaving my driver on the road to Glastonbury while I investigate the story.

Crossing the road, I headed along through the woodland road and eventually came across a wooden plaque nailed to a tree. Or should I say, was. The plaque was snow sat on the ground but it still pointed into the woods. Something felt off, something that mirrored part of my past and I had come armed and ready for trouble. Strapped to my hip was a more powerful version of my lightning gun and slung over my back hung a Winchester rifle. Looking back down the road at my driver, I took a deep breath and headed into the woods.

As I crept through the wood I had the feeling of being watched, was this just paranoia spawned from my past history or was there really trouble around. After pushing through the woods, I eventually came across a small clearing. In the middle stood four stones in the ground and another small wooden board explaining the significance of the stones. I knelt down to inspect them and felt something warm on my hip. Pulling my long coat behind me, I realised the my gun was glowing. This weapon was special and the glowing was showing that there was a force in the area that it was drawing energy from. I withdrew the weapon, stood up and walked around the clearing holding  it out in front of me. As I reached the far side of the clearing, the glow increased and I spotted a low lying fog creep across the ground. I stated towards the fog and now knew how swain had escaped.  There was a Vail gate here and swain must have discovered it.

Cutting through Air.

Hers another little sword related tip.

I barely heard the whistle as the sword cut through the air, In a split second, it collided with the log beside my head, scattering splinters everywhere.

Being an owner of a sword, I sometimes I try some basic moves to help flex and exercise the arms and wrist. While swinging, I started to hear the whistle of air as the sword cut through. I have taken time to watch my swing and noticed that when the air whistles over the blade, the blade tip is a blur. It’s knowing little things like this that we can use to help describe the speed at which a sword user swings.

There is another side two this, I also posses a long sword (two handed) Short sword (single handed) and Katana (Japanese two handed) and when each of these cut through the air they each have a different sound. I know this isn’t all that helpful, but it’s the small things that can make a big difference in a story.

Now I just need to find a sword teacher who can show me how to actually use them.

Passed 40K and it sucks.

Passed 40K and it sucks.

As you can gather, I have passed 40K instead of scoffing chocolate. I should be tucking into an early double malt but today’s work sucks.

Its supposed to introduce the next party into the conflagration but it flows like a brick on a road.

I need to go back and edit P1 now and work out formatting and cover design but alas P2 is calling out to me. Part 2 is supposed to cover him rebuilding his life as well as introducing the Lords of Camalonia but alas every word of it is crap.

There is still ten days left so onwards and upwards.

CampNaNoWriMo Update?

I thought I should write a post about how far along I am in the beta version of the book.

Using the Nanocounter my official word count (actual document word count) is sitting around 32,660 however, in the process of writing and the little distractions, I have written another 6K words on top of that! My original target word count for the first part of book one came in at 29K and 15 chapters (not to far short) and while there are still loads to do on it, I hope that the finial pre-publish will pass 30K.

Part 2-Second life MKII is only up to 3.5K, but I hope to get up to the 6K mark by drink o’clock (1759 According to Arthur Guinness)

I am at the point in the manuscript that I have an idea of where it’s going, but no notes on what to write.

I say this far too many times, but I am still amazed that a 2.2k word Halloween short has blown into a book series as more and more readers ask me questions.

I have a private hidden group on facebook where a few have had the chance to preview the first 14 chapters, but until the first part get epublished it will remain secret.

The Watcher in the Woods (Vail Gates?)

There is truly only one film that Walt Disney ever made that still scares me.

Released in 1980, The Watcher in the woods is a truly scary children’s film.

IMDB’s Blurb >

When a family moves to a country home, the young girls experience strange happenings that have a link to an occult event years past.

I had forgotten about this film until to day.  In my books, I explain that the wizards, druids and other ancient species fled our would through hidden magical ways called “Vail Gates”.

Now I think back, this film may be the first (unknowing) reference to these portals that led to other worlds.

The film is based on a book by the same name written by Florence Engel Randall.

I think I have just found my next book to read.
